Explanation of the probiotic effect:
Probiotic is a living microbiological food supplement that promotes the health of the host by improving the microbial balance in the gut.

Probiotic  has had different meanings over time. In all cases, however, it contained a bacterial product that was said to promote health.

It concerns a living bacterium, which is administered via food and must be able to reach the intestine in order to exert a beneficial influence there.
This means that a bacterium must in any case be acid-resistant, can grow under anaerobic (=oxygen-free) conditions and must not have any adverse properties.
These criteria limit the amount of bacterial species and strains that can be used to the following groups of bacteria: Lactobacillus, Streptococcus and Bifidobacterium species. These three bacterial genera all belong to the so-called lactic acid bacteria and occur naturally in both the intestine and in fermented (= sour) dairy products.

The claim on these tribes is a.o.:

  • inhibiting unwanted bacteria, such as E.coli and Cl. perfringens
  • prevention of diarrhea caused by rotaviruses and Salmonella
  • reduce effects of Candida infections
  • promoting the immune response.
