About the Forpus:
The Forpus species are usually kept as pets with at least one partner. They are very sociable and often show signs of depression when kept alone. It should be remembered that Forpuss, especially the male birds, can be very loud and need plenty of room to fly in and roam. Another characteristic is that these birds can be sensitive to stress. Big and sometimes small changes will lead to great unrest and sometimes even panic.
As with any parrot species (because of their strong beaks), they usually spend their time with their mate gnawing together, preferably on wood and porous rocks. Due to their curiosity, exposure to toxic materials such as plastic (e.g. window seals), poisonous plants and chemically treated objects should be strictly avoided, especially galvanized wires (used as a cheap material for aviaries), which have led to many cases of poisoning. They are not easy to breed as they are extremely aggressive and sometimes kill or severely maim their mates. They are known for biting attacks, usually targeting their partner's claws.
