After years of searching for my ideal mixture, I have now found a partner in the company SLAETS who mixes my food the way I want it. The quality of their seeds is also very high, which was a must in my search for a good mixture. My birds are therefore offered this mixture throughout the year, supplemented with pointed oats. This depends on the breeding or resting season. My rose cockatoos and cockatiels are also offered this mixture with very good results. For me it is very important that they are not fed too fat.

In addition to this seed mixture, I try to give the birds some fresh fruit and vegetables every other day, such as apples, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, onion,...

My birds only get power food when they are laying with young. They also do not receive concentrates during the preparation for breeding. On the day the first fry hatch, they are given dry egg food. This is supplemented 3 times a week with my homemade concentrates. For the homemade concentrates I take ½ part ground bread with ½ part dry concentrate. This is ground with all kinds of fruits and vegetables until it has become a fluffy mixture.

In recent years I hear from more and more enthusiasts that they have problems with the breeding of lovebirds. Especially the dolls that don't lay anymore. In my opinion, this is often in the hands of the enthusiast. Birds that have been fed too fat are more likely to have this problem because the pupae are already saturated with fat before they start breeding. By feeding the birds rationed, they will have to eat everything and therefore also have to take in a more varied diet, which automatically benefits the fattening. It is also important that the birds are given room after breeding to stretch their wings. A bird that has to spend its entire life in a breeding or exhibition cage will be less fit and therefore also give fewer young than birds that can regularly fledge in an aviary. Of course, not everyone has the space to provide flights, but it will certainly benefit the birds.
