Avian LoriNectar
For the nectar-eating bird species, we have found a substitution to provide our precious birds with a balanced diet. Different species have different needs for certain nutrients. The hummingbird only needs 3% protein in its nectar, the sunbirds use 8% but the lories again 12%. Within the Avian nectars you will find a balanced content, specific for each group.
One of the forerunners in the development of nectar for the group of hummingbirds has been Dr. Schuckmann from Germany. Based on his knowledge and the experience of renowned hummingbird keepers and breeders, more and more knowledge has been gathered. As a result, various commercial nectars have been put on the market over time.
Avian LoriNectar is a complete and balanced food specially developed for Nectare-eating Lori's, Fig Parrots and Swift Parakeets. It is a liquid food that serves as a basic menu for almost all lorikeet species. Since the mid-eighties, several ready-made lorikeet feeds have been put on the market. Nectar and pollen are the natural food of all Lories and Lorikeets, most species also eat fruit, seeds, flower buds and berries. Many lorikeet enthusiasts have been making their own nectar for years, but this way of feeding is not recommended; simple because you cannot put together a balanced menu without the necessary knowledge. Many DIY menus serve the convenience of the owner rather than the welfare of the birds. Some breeders don't want to switch to commercial food because it would be more expensive. If these breeders used all the necessary ingredients in their own food, the price could be different. Baby food, rice flour and pollen alone will not keep your Lories healthy.
Preparation method and dosage:
You take 15 grams (1 full measuring spoon, which is included) on 100 ml of water. Stir this well until you have a homogeneous liquid. You now set this mixture aside for three minutes and after three minutes you stir this mixture well once more. You will see that the nectar becomes nicely homogeneous and takes on a jelly-like appearance. This is due to the natural vegetable binding agent. This binding agent prevents the nutrients in the mixture from settling and the bird first having to drink all the water to get to the actual nutrients. Freshly made, it can be stored for 12 hours. Make a fresh amount every day. In warm and sunny weather, do not hang the nectar directly in the sun. One kilo provides 6.7 liters of food.
A closed packaging has a shelf life of one year. Store in a dry, cool and dark place.
